My Words
Kamal Ahmed
Birth, birthplace, parents:
I born on 9th September in 1965 in a quiet remote village in the district of Pabna in Bangladesh, named ‘Khonkra’. This is one of the villages in the sub-district of Pabna Sadar.
By name, Kiam Uddin Biswas is my father and Aziza Khatun is my mother. They both were satisfied to me on my fair performance in studying. There was no diversity in the plain rural life. There was no scope of enjoying modern entertainment. But I felt an attraction for music since my childhood. As days passed, it increased more.
Passion for music and unfriendly environment:
I used to listen to music very much, and to try to sing the same. And, I could conceive those very easily in my mind. This was one of my instinct traits. But the surroundings I was growing in, was not friendly to music. Family environment was against music. My father, the pious man, didn’t want me in music. But there was always a support to my music from my mother’s end; she always used to protect me.Thus my singing could not come to my father’s notice.
Continuing music sameway:
The open rural field was my secured place of singing. Sometimes, I used to sing alone. And sometimes my friends were my listeners. They used to enjoy my song and inspire me. I used to sing on open voice without any instrument. I used to think, whenever I would get the scope of learning music!
Primary Education:
I got my primary education at my own village. The school was of such a type that the scope of music was far away; even there was no proper partition and the floor was rough. I used to go to school on bare feet. I used to spend the whole day home, and at school and playgroung – wearing a half pant and with dust upto my knees. But I was performing well in my study. Enough interest grew in me in text books. I spent my years in that school upto class V.
Passion for radio:
My passion to radio flourished more, after the completion of my primary education. My radio used to stay besides my books on the reading table. Listening to radio continued during the study, or sometimes in between. And since then, one question had been making me upset, as it were, I would have get a job at the radio!
By this time, I started getting invitation for singing songs, regularly in the neighbouring events organized locally. Consequently, it causes intensity of my passion to music. At this stage, a special attraction for Rabindra-music started growing in me. But the passion for music did not detract me from my regular study.
Bansher Bada High School – Classes VI to VIII – Securing Junior Scholarship:
There was no Junior High School or High School in my village. Thus I had to get my study upto class VIII at a school in the neighbouring village. It was ‘Bansher Bada High School’.There too, was no fair opportunity to exercise music. But I continued practice on music inspired by my own interest. And I remained fairly serious in my studying. That school, besides the Pabna-Ishwardi road, attracts my attention even till today. Because, I am the first obtainer of junior scholarship from that school. This was certainly, a big achievement in my life. And that was also a big occurrence in the field of education in the surrounding area.
Changing school and getting opportunity for practicing music:
My inspiration in music increased due to being awarded with junior scholarship. Then an intention grew for studying in science group. But there was no skilled science teacher in the ‘Bansher Bada High School’.Thus the next study in classes XI and X continued at a village school crossing two other villages. The fate of my music also came in my favour. The opportunity I had been waiting for so long, at last I got. During my study in this school, I got the scope for exercising music. As there was a healthy environment for study, so conducive was it for literature and culture.
Being champion in the music competition:
Fair academic result causes some extra benefits. Then nobody hinders the fulfillment of the student’s hobby. No exception was for me also! Thus the voice of objection of my family grew softeron my mysic. I became the champion in a music competition there. All were pleased on my performance, and it enhanced my confidence. I thought myself, yes, I could do better. I committed to myself, as I have to do well in my study, so in singing songs.
Buying a harmonium:
Till then, I was not able to play on a harmonium; thus I used to sing without any instrument. Without noticing my father, I bought a harmonium with the money I had gotten with the junor scholarship. But I had to keep the harmonium in a neighbouring house. However, it was better than worse. At least, I got the room for practicing music on my voice with playing harmonium, practicing the musical notations, though it was on a hiding.
Study in intermediate level:
I got an admission into Pabna Edward College after I had passed the SSC exam in 1980.The duration of intermediate level is only one and a half or two years, at best. Though my practice did not stop at that time, but there was a pressure of study. Managing that pressure, I could not make the room for institutional learning on music. I could realized that stepping forward too far with music, is not possible without any institutional learning on it. Then again, I had to wait for a scope.
My admission in Dhaka University and Chhayanat:
In 1982, I got an admission into Dhaka University after passing the SSC exam. Soil Science was my department. And I was the resident student of Shahidullah Hall. At the same time, I was enrolled in the unique institution for music, “Chayanat”.Gradually, my music-life was growing!
Here the bud of my music-life got the room for flourishing, being in touch of the artists adept in music. The reason for getting an admission into Chayanat was that, it was one of the best cultural organizations in Bangladesh. This organization was established in 1961.
Other than observing different cultural programmes and festivals, the institution conducts training on musical instruments, music, dance, etc. and also operates music schools. One of the attarctions of ‘Pahela Baishakh’ – the Bangla New Year’s Day, is welcoming the New Year, or, ‘Barshoboron’ regularly at the roots of the banyan tree at Ramna, presented by Chayanat. After observing the birth-centennial of of Rabindranath, a few organisers initiated for establishing a progressive cultural organization.Among them, there were Sufia Kamal and Wahidul Haque.
Chayanat started observing the Bangla New Year in 1964, on the first of Baishakh in the Bangla year of 1371.Gradually this grew as the national festival of observing the Bangla New Year’s Day.
Chayanat’s environment and the company of music-gurus:
In addition to learning music here, I came to know the area and scope of music, the scope of institutional learning of music, its potential and position as a profession and also as a hobby.Wahidul Haque was a unique teacher!Steadily, I started realizing Rabindranath and becoming fond of the great poet in touch of Wahidul Haque.Gradually, I became more biased to Rabindra-music. Here, I also came in touch with the iconic artists, like, Sanjida Khatun, Ikhtiar Omar and Sirajus Salekin.
Ustad Ful Muhammad:
Sessions on classical music were conducted by Ustad Ful Muhammad. What a combination of rule and affection was in his outstanding quality of teaching! I can not forget that yet! He used to love and regard so much that I feel better no sooner than I sat besides him.
Attaining championship in annual cultural competition:
I was elected as the Cultural Secretary of Shaidullah Hall Students Union during my Studentship in the University of Dhaka. I became the champion in the annual cultural competition. I worked as a member of Board of Directors of the Dhaka University Cultural Team. In this way, I became familiar with many people established in the field of literature-culture-music. It increased my confidence. Other than treating myself a practitioner of music, I also started thinking me as a cultural activist. I got appreciation and inspiration from my university teachers and friends. I started enjoying popularity, a least a bit. I could realize that music also has an important role in the social life.
Udichi and Lokonatyadal:
During my study at Dhaka University, I was connected with the secular and modern Bengali cultural organization ‘Udichi’. Because, Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Goshthy, or ‘Udichi’ in short, is the biggest cultural organization in Bangladesh. ‘Kothashilpi’ or Master of Words Satyen Sen formed Udichi in 1968. Later on, a team of young cultural activists, including Ranesh Dasgupta and Shahidullah Kaisar, joined to Udichi.
Since its commencement, Udichi is struggling for a balanced society of rights and freedom. Conceiving the theme of overall freedom in mind during the years of 1968 to 1971, Udichi developed a cultural struggle. They scattered the struggle at every coner of rural Bangladesh. Udichi workers participated in liberation war directly in 1971. The organization has been playing a vital role in every democratic, anti-fundamentalist and anti-aggressionist struggle in the country. Currently, there are more than three hundred branches of Udichi throughout the country. Also there are six overseas branches of it. This organization was awarded the highest honorary momento of Bangladesh ‘Ekushey Padak’ in 2013.
Among the stage-plays produced by Udichi, salient are Gulzar, Michhil, Dhola Geramer Naam, Avishopto Nogory, Chirokumar Shobha, Bibaho Utsav, etc. Among their street plays main is Aaro Manush Chai, Dinbodoler Pala, Raja Raja Khel, Madarir Khel, Tegarar Paalaa, Rajakarer Panchaly, Shadhinotar Songram, Itihaash Kotha Kou, Taantal, Songram-e Sundar, etc.
I was closely connected with them being attracted by these heart-felt presentations and the thematic views there of. During this time, Mahbub Selim was the general secretary of this organization. Among those plays, Itihaash Kotha Kou was played at all the rural corners of Bangladesh for hundreds of thousands of times.
Once it was played in Gaibandha also. I actively participated there and presented the introductory words. Once I was connected with Lokonatyadal also. I directed the music in their play ‘Kanjus’.
Graduation and post-graduation:
As an examinee of 1985, I obtained the graduation with honours in Soil Science in 1988 from Dhaka University. And the following year, I obtained the post-graduation in the same subject.
Being awarded with the Information Cadre in the 9th Bangladesh Civil Service exam:
The unconditional love for music also affected the selection of my profession. Thus information cadre was my first choice in the 9th BCS after finishing my Honours in 1988. Also my performance was better, thus I got the cadre of my choice. I joined in my service in January 1991.
Joining in Betar:
My first chosen place for joining was Bangladesh Betar. Because, not only the best singers of Bangladesh, those of Bangla language also grew from this organization. To talk on their scope, shelter, recognition or popularity – all move round this organization, Bangladesh Betar. I am so lucky that my first posting was at Betar. In the long 25 years of my service, I have been staying at Betar for 23 years. Some three years inbetween, I served Bangladesh Television on a deputation.
Present professional position:
Presently, I am the Director, External Services of Bangladesh Betar. It is the State Radio Service operated by the government. In this region, radio broadcasting started first on 16th of December in 1939. Initially it was established in Old Dhaka. Later, it was shifted in Shahbagh.
Betar played a vital role in the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971.The declaration of freedom was broadcasted on the then Radio Pakistan on 26th March 1971. Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra (Free Bangla Radio Station) started its broadcasting in Chittagong. The radio station was shifted to Kolkatta after a number of shifting, due to being targetted by heavy armour attacks. From there, the boroadcasting continued till the war came to an end. The radio station was named as ‘Bangladesh Betar’ on 6th December in 1971.
National Betar Bhaban situated in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar housed Ka, Kha and Ga channels and FM waves, and produces programmes for those. Including those, the activities of Bangladesh Betar are being conducted also from 12 regional stations. Dhaka station and the regional ones broadcast their own programmes on AM and FM bands. In addition to these programmes, Betar also broadcasts programmes of BBC Bangla, Deutsche Welle, Radio China and NHK.
For the role played in liberation war, Bangladesh Betar was awarded the highest inspirational state recognition – the ‘Swadhinata Padak’ or Freedom Momento. I feel myself lucky to working in such a glorious national organization.
Now I am engaged in the External Service of Bangladesh Betar. This Service is for the overseas listeners, interested in Bangladesh and the expatriate Bangladeshis. It commenced broadcasting in 1972.
It remains on air on 4750 Kiloherz, in 9 sessions with programmes in 6 languages, for 5 hours and 30 minutes daily. The External Service broadcasts programmes in Bangla and also in English, Arabic, Urdu, Hindi and Nepales , for the SAARC-member South Asian countries, and also for the Middle East and Europe. I have to lead these accomplishments.
A documentary naming ‘Dhonir Ogropathik’ or the ‘Pioneer of Sound’ planned and produced by me and presented in the Diamond Zubilee Festival at the completion of 75 years of Betar, was appreciated by the audience.
Official tours to overseas countries:
I visited Australia and New Zealand in 2015 as the leader of the World Cup Cricket Broadcast Team. The historical commencements of live commentary of the inaugural match in Christ Church and the final match in Melbourne Cricket Ground were initiated on my voice.
Moreover, I visited Nepal on an official tour in 2013 as a representative of Bangladesh Telivision. Earlier, I visited Zimbabwe in 2012 and Sri Lanka in 2011 as the leader of the cricket broadcasting team and World Cup Cricket Broadcasting Team, respectively.
In addition to these, I also travelled to India, Singapore and Dubai and Saudi Arabia
Music on stage and media:
I approached many a times on the stages to present songs. My professional life passed in all the Betar regions including Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Khulna, and Barisal. And I sang songs in all the regional programmes. I presented so many times on Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television and also on private TV channels.
Presenting music overseas:
I presented songs in a few programmes in Sri Lanka and India. I visited Kolkatta and Kalyani Universities as the members of Dhaka University Cultural Team. Other than these two venues, I presented music at Rabindra Sadan and Birla Academy of Art and Cultural Centre in Kolkatta.
My musical albams:
Always the pure music attracts me; and grows feelings of appeal in my mind. The feelings caused release of 15 albums, one by one.The works are on Rabindra Music, Music of three Poets and Modern Music.
The albums are:
- Shada Megher Bhela (Rabindra Music)
- Nana Ronger Dinguli (Rabindra Music)
- Path Chawatei Ananda (Rabindra Music)
- Falguner Diney (Rabindra Music)
- Nishshobdo Charoney (Rabindra Music – Mixed Album)
- Godhuly (Harano Diner Gaan) A Tribute to Kishor Kumar
- Kaan Pete Roi (Rabindra Music)
- Bendhechhi Amar Pran (Rabindra Music)
- Bhora Thaak Smritisudhay (Rabindra Music)
- Odhora (Modern Music)
- Gaaner Toree (Songs of three Poets)

- Nidrahara Rater Gaan (Rabindra Music)
- Durer Bondhu (Rabindra Music) and
- Mohakabyer Kobi (A Musical Tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman).
Mohakabyer Kobi:
A few days ago, my 14th album ‘Durer Bondhu’ was released from Raga Music of India. From the same publisher my 15th album ‘Mohakabyer Kobi’ was released on the National mourning day on 15th December, 2016.
As a part of the programme on the occasion of 15th August arranged by the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkatta, the cover of my 15th album ‘Mohakabyer Kobi’ was opened. The album is composed with 12 songs of lyricist Fazlul Haque. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman made the dreams of the Bangalease into a reality, through leading the struggle for freedom making them spell bound in their dreams. The Bangalis lost that leader through a dreadful killing. To the Bangalis, as it were, 15th August is a nightmare till date.
The person, who led the Bangalis in their language movement, mass movement, and afterall in the liberation war in 1971, and placed Bangladesh with dignity in the global map; was presented in some separate songs. But no artist worked on him as a unique release. This question hearts me. My accountability inspired me to proceed with such a work. Basically, I am a singer of Rabindra-music, but the liberation war and Bangabandhu is the central theme of my sensibility and realization. Inspired by this sensibility, I bestowed my album ‘Mohakabyer Kobi’ or the Poet of the Greatest Poetrical Work to the Greatest Bangalee of the thousand years Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
I expect that the Audio CD would reach to the young folk with the sacrifice, patriotism, vision and the nobility of Bangabandhu’s leadership. I would like to consider that this Audio CD would be a bridge between the young generation and Bangabandhu. My earlier 13 albums were released from Bangladesh. And this time, I got the inspiration from the Indian listeners to release the 14th and the 15th albums from their country.
I presented songs at Rabindra Sadan and Birla Academy of Art and Cultural Centre and got a huge response from the audience there of. Consequently, I agreed upon releasing these two albums from India in response to the request of Raga Music.
Reactions:
After listening to the songs of the Audio CD Mohakabyer Kobi, a prominent music director of Kolkata Rana Dutta said, “Singing and presentation was nice, it was unprecedented!”
The best harmonica-player in South-east Asia Dr Babita Basu wrote, “I listened to your Album. The music and presentation was outstanding! I became enriched listening to the album. I’ll wait for more such type of works. Congratulations to you!”
A female fan of my music, whose name I could not recollect, listened to my music, “Azi jhorer rate tomar ovisar/ Poranshokha bandhu hey amar..” from my second album “Nana Ronger Dinguli” in 2008, and phoned me saying, “I listened to this Baitali song of Rabindranath on many voices; but to me, your one is the best which I listened to on your CD.”
Recognition:
I am a special category singer of Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television. Moreover, I obtained 2 momentos so far as recognition of my contribution to music. Those are:
- SAARC Cutural Society Award, 2010 and
- Baagabandhu Research Foundation Award, 2015.
Family:
Syeda Shahina Banub is my wife. We have two children. Our son Ahmed Rezwan Protik is studying in Engineering and daughter Ahmed Rehnuma Prokriti is SSC examinee. None of them perform music. But they all enjoy my music.
I owe to the media personnel and publishers:
Many people extended their cooperation to convey my music to the general mass. I openheartedly would like to express my uncountable dues and unlimited gratefulness to them.
Among them, there are Sadia Afrin Mollick and Jahangir Alam of The Daily Star, Mainul Hassan of Daily Sun, Nazir Hassan of The Independent, Sheikh Arif Bulbon of The New Nation, Tanvir Tarek of Daily Ittefaq, Nithor Mahmud of Daily Sangbad, Mazharul Islam of Annyadin and Kazi Rownok Hassan of Shargam.
Also AKM Arifur Rahman, Chairman and Mazharul Islam, MD of Laser Vision remain among them. In addition, CEO of Raga Music of India Shweta Gupta also specially deserves to be in the list.
Musical and professional organizations:
I joined the Rabindrasangeet Shammilon Parishad. In different times, I carried out the duties here as member of the secretariat, member of the vice presidium and Advisor
Daily austere strives:
I continue strive for excellence in music within my busy working responsibilities. Passion for music brings out time for practices. As to say, usually I conduct my music practices for one hour at night after returning from office, and also for another hour in the morning before starting for office daily.
Persons conceived in my mind and those I have the opportunity to work with:
I conceive many Rabindra music performers as my favourite ones. Among them, songs of Subinoy Roy, Chinmoy Chottopaday, Sagor Sen, Devabrata Biswas, and Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya conquered my heart. I am lucky to have the opportunity to work closely with prominent music composer Sheikh Sadi Khan, Ali Hossain, Azad Rahman, Basu, Lucky Akhand and many others, while performing on modern music.
The current trend and my anxiety on presentation of music:
To me, the current generation is detached from the golden past of music. As frequently the present generation is listening to band music, so is not to Nazrul, Rabindranath, or the best songs sung by Manna Dey, Hemanto Mukherjee, Shyamal Mitra, or Lata Mungeskar. The generation is not responsible for this situation. To make them fond of fair music, the guardians ought to practise listening pure music at their homes. It is necessary to convey the fair Bangla music to their ears. They listen to music of Shachin Dev Barman on the voice of Band musicians and consider those as the creation of Shachin Dev Barman. This is really disgusting!
Many private FM Radio channels do not mention the lyricist, compositor, tuner or singer. I consider that there must be a policy on this. Fruits and flowers are not to be thought about, without the roots.
Srikant Acharya sang the music, “Bodhua Amar Chokhey Jol Anechey.” But the lyric, tuning and voice of the original song was created and performed by Jatileswar Mukherjee. It is not known by many of this generation. Thus they consider it as the music by Srikant Acharya. Therefore, it is necessary to present the whole information while presenting the song.
I consider:
Any fair creativity deserves passion to achieve better result. Success may be trapped in the force of love. Learning, knowing and austere striving are must for music. Music is my life.
I am livingclosely with music, and till my death I would like to exist with music.Till my death, actively, I would like to continue with Rabindrasangit Sammelon Parishad, which was established my initial music teacher respected personality Wahidul Haque. I would like to proceed with music hand to hand, and to exit throughout the feelings of people. I expect the listeners’ support for fair music.
I expect that the wisdom existing in fair music would occupy the hearts of all, and realize our dreams of music. For me, I would like to desire heartiest best wishes.Though I am fond of Rabindra music, other music also attracts me. Pure music always takes me closer and makes me feel my heart full of passion.
The world of music has changed with the change of time. Now, music is not only of listening, it is also of watching! Thus I would like to congratulate the music-artists of the new generation, and advise them to be more careful in music exercise. I would like to request the guardians to come forward for making the new generation singers familiar with the golden pasts of music. I would like to be a lifelong worker for promoting and spreading fair music.
Next work:
This year, I grew very emotional during my journey to Medinah after performing Hujj in Makkah, while I was passing through the historical places connected with the ideals and sacrifices of Hazrat Muhammad (S). Consequently, I bear an intention in my mind to release an album comprised with the Islami devotional songs of Nazrul.
Dream with music:
I want to continue myself as a worker of the organizations going ahead with Bengali culture. I conceive a dream to establish an institution centred to releasing of music. It would be possible to promote fair music with the institution. I want to continue singing fair songs for my whole life. Though not all, butsome of my dreams on music have been realized. My continuous advancement is on the way to realize the unfulfilled dreams. On my way, I would like to expect best wishes from all of my well-wishers and my listeners and the audience, as well.

Arts & Entertainment: Album Review
Kamal Ahmed’s “Phalguner Din-e”
Tagore singer Kamal Ahmed loves to explore the beauty of Rabindra Sangeet. Though he dons the hat of programme manager in BTV, he is also a music connoisseur and enthusiast.
Recently, Laser Vision has produced Ahmed’s fourth solo album “Phalguner Diney.” Renowned literary critic and cultural personality Mustafa Nurul Islam was the chief guest at the album launch. Noted Tagore artistes Tapan Mahmud, Sadi Mohammad, Sajed Akbar, Salma Akbar and Lily Islam were special guests at the event.
The album features 10 Tagore songs — “Jodi Tarey Nai Chini,” “Tumi Dak Diyechho Kon Shokaley,” “Na Go Ei Je Dhula Amar,” “Shudhu Jawa Asha,” “Emni Korey Jaye Jodi Din,” “Ami Keboli Shopon,” “Na Chahiley Jarey,” “Bhalo-bashi Bhalobashi,” “Ami Chini Go Chini” and “Amar Hridoy.” Shakila Zafar has lent her voice to two duets — “Jodi Tarey Nai Chini” and “Amar Hridoy” — in the album with the artiste. Amit Bandyopadhyay has directed the music.
Featured songs are popular, romantic and melodious. Nowhere does the album mention names of the instrumentalists and music arrangements of four songs — “Emni Korey Jaye Jodi,” “Ami Keboli Shopon,” “Na Cha-hiley Jarey” and “Bhalobashi Bhalobashi” — uncannily resemble those of Indian artiste Indrani Sen’s covers. The restrained soprano vocals of Shakila Zafar contrasting with the sonorous voice of Kamal Ahmed somehow misses a smooth musical transition.
Ahmed’s previous albums are “Poth Chawatei Anondo,” “Nana Ronger Dinguli” and “Shada Megher Bhela.”
Ahmed was a former adviser to Rabindra San-geet Shammilon Parishod and was a member of board of director of the cultural wing of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU).
“We will never explore the wholeness of Rabindranath just through diffusing his songs only; we must also study Tagore’s life, works, thoughts and ideals,” Ahmed believes.
The artiste’s motto is to help those musicians who cannot record Tagore’s songs due to financial restraints.

Kamal Ahmed’s homage to Bangabandhu thru ‘Mohakabyer Kobi’
Eminent singer Kamal Ahmed, a popular name recognised by the Tagore song lovers at home and abroad, has come up with his new album titled ‘Mohakabyer Kobi’ to pay homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 41st death anniversary.
Kamal Ahmed’s new album ‘Mohakabyer Kobi’ —which is the 14th solo album to his credit—has been released under the banner of renowned Raga Music from Kolkata. The album features a total of 12 songs written by lyricist Fazlul Haque Khan. All the songs in the album are directly related to the eventful life and work of Bangabandhu which highlights the heroic leadership of Bangabandhu during the Liberation War of Bangladesh, historic March 7 speech and few other significant events of his life.
Kamal Ahmed said about his new album, “Though my album ‘Mohakabyer Kobi’, the sacrifice, patriotism, foresight and leadership of Bangabandhu will reach out to the younger generation of the country. Today, our younger generation is rudderless for many reasons. If they follow the ideals of Bangabandhu, they will be enlightened. I believe this album will be a bridge between Bangabandhu and new generation.”
Kamal Ahmed informed Dhaka Live that besides releasing the album in Bangladesh, the album has also been released in Kolkata. The album cover was unveiled yesterday as a part of the programme organised by the High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata to mark the National Mourning Day 2016.
To note, Kamal Ahmed released 13 solo albums earlier on different occasions, and his 13th album ‘Durer Bondhu’ was also released under the banner of Raga Music of India on the occasion of the death anniversary of the Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore this month.

Kamal Ahmed’s new album comes out Saturday
‘Durer Bondhu’—the new album of eminent singer Kamal Ahmed, a favourite name among the Tagore song lovers at home and abroad, is set to be released Saturday on the occasion of the death anniversary of the Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore.
Ahmed’s new album, which is the 13th solo album to his credit, is coming out under the banner of Raga Music of India. The album features a total of 10 Tagore songs on different subjects.
Kamal Ahmed informed Dhaka Live that like the previous albums, besides keeping well-known songs of Tagore, he has included a few unfamiliar songs of the poet to introduce with the listeners.
Kamal Ahmed said, “The golden era of our music is unknown to the new generation of the country.
To present the variety of Tagore’s songs among the audience and new generation listeners, I have arranged the album with the different songs of Rabindranath Tagore on diverse subjects.”
Beginning with the Tagore love song ‘Nishi Na Pohate Jibon Pradip Jalaiya Jao Priya’, the singer then kept two songs on the subjects of nature and worship, while the fourth song in the album has been rendered from ‘Mayar Khela’.
The title of the album has come from an intense love song of Tagore that is ‘Durer Bondhu Surer Dutire Pathale Tomar Ghore’. Besides, presenting Tagore’s popular numbers such as ‘Jodi Jantem Amar Kiser Betha’ and ‘Amar Jibon Patro Uchchila’ in an attractive manner, new songs like ‘Dhora Diyechhi’ and ‘Nidrahara Rater E Gan’ have also been incorporated into the album.
