Indira Gandhi Culture Centre (IGCC) is organising an evening of Rabindra Sangeet by Kamal Ahmed at Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum in the city at 6 pm on April 9.
Kamal Ahmed is the Deputy Director General (Program) of Bangladesh Betar (Formerly director of External Service). He is from the Bangladesh Civil Service (Information) and has been working with Bangladesh Betar and BTV for the last 26 years.
He has a Master’s degree in Soil Science from the University of Dhaka. As he has a passion for music, especially Rabindra Sangeet, he took extensive training in music from Chhayanaut under the direct supervision of Ustad Wahidul Haque, Ikhtiar Omar, Sirajus Salekin and Ustad Ful Mohammad.
Kamal Ahmed has performed in BTV and different private channels in Bangladesh and also in Tara TV of India on numerous an occasions. Besides stage performance in Bangladesh, he performed at Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi, Maharaja Birbikram University at Agartala, and All India Women’s Congress,“Kolpotoru Mela” Rajarhat, Birla Academy of Arts and Culture and Rabindra Sadan at Kolkata.
Awards received by Kamal Ahmed include SAARC Cultural Society Shammanona, Bangabandhu Gobeshona Foundation Award, Adwaitia Mallabarman Smriti Shammanona and Dhirendranath Dutta Shammanona.
He has released 14 solo and one mixed audio albums, mostly Rabindra Sangeet since 2007. Some of them are – ‘Sada Megher Bhela’, ‘Nana Ronger Dinguli’, ‘Godhuli’- A tribute to Kishore Kumar, ‘Baluka Belay’ – A Tribute to Hemanta Mukherjee and ‘Mohakabyer Kobi’ – A tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Entry to the soiree is open to all.
