Bangladesh National Musuem organised solo musical evening of Noted Media Personality and reputed Tagore Singer Kamal Ahmed at Sufia Kamal Auditorium on the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore’s Death Anniversary on August 6. The musical night was designed after Tagore’s rains and love songs and the title was “Srabonghonogohon Mohe”. The artist performed seventeen songs.
Among seventeen songs singer Kamal Ahmed delivered “Abar Eshechhe Ashar” on Mollar Rag, “Asar Sandhya Ghoniye Elo” on Emon Rag, “Aji Srabonghonogohon Mohe” on Gouro Mollar Rag, “Jadi Jantem Amar Kisher Betha” on Ramkeli Rag and “Valobesha Sokhi Nivrite Jotone”.
The Singer highlighted time of song creation, Tagore’s age, socio cultural context, beat and rhythm of each song on the eve of his performance. However, the auditorium was over crowded and many of the audience were bound to listen to the musical event just standing on foot. Kamal Ahmed performed half of the songs of musical night which were requested by the audience. The appeal of each song to the audience was certainly enjoyable as is the devotion to rain, love, affair and affection.
Ahmed enriched his acknowledgement through national and international awards. He received SAARC Cultural Award in 2010, Bangabandhu Gobeshana Foundation Award 2015.
Recently he has been invited to participate in the “Bangabandhu Smarok puroskar” and “Subash Mukhopadhay Sharok puroskar” at Koltata, India. The programme will be jointly organised by newspaper “Chokh” from Kolkata and “Cirodin” from Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Federation of Bangladesh Association in North America: FOBANA invited Kamal Ahmed to join and receive FOBANA award which will be delivered from August 30 to September 2 in Canada.
